When everything hurts and you’ve reached that highest level of pain, your pain tolerance goes back to zero and that’s when you start to feel nothing at all. Numb. That’s the word. It’s sort of like how our body reacts to severe pain during trauma. Our pain receptors completely shut down until we can’t feel anything anymore.

Our feelings can do that too. Like we can hurt now but when the pain reaches its highest limit we start to feel numb and then it gets easy to walk away because we can’t feel anymore and don’t even want to care because we’ve had enough. It gets easy because after suffering for so long, walking away is not painful anymore but a relief.
